Since I am new to "blogging," don't expect this to be anything overly impressive. This whole concept seems strange, but I am hoping my family and friends can keep up with what I'm doing while in Paris for a year two years!

E. Coli

I did a little grocery shopping the other day and as I was just about to pick up a basket of cherry tomatoes, I quickly jerked my hand back.  I looked around at all the labels on the fruits and vegetables and wondered if those really were the countries of origin.  If not, I could quickly become a victim of E. Coli!  This crazy bacteria is spreading like wildfire all over Europe, and although it hasn't hit France with a vengeance just quite yet....I only know that its coming.  Granted, this can happen anywhere, in any country in the world. The 2006 spinach epidemic in the United States and the continuous Salmonella and E. Coli outbreaks from meat, peanut butter, and produce are only small factors in the worldly analysis.  And the United States has the top food standards and safety in the world!  But here in the EU, everyone gets everything from everyone.  Therefore....this is not a good situation to be in.  When the whole of Russia bans all import of European produce....you know it can't be good.  I will tell you this, it will be a while before I eat raw veggies.  Not because things from France are infected with E. Coli, but because I am too cautious to even give it a chance!

Mom and Pat are coming in tomorrow bright and early.  I am babysitting tonight and Chloé offered for me to sleep there and she would drive me to get them from the airport.  Sweet offer, but after being out all night will she really want to get up at 6:30 and drive me to the airport?  We will see, told them to be ready for either although and whatever I show up in will have to do!  haha....So excited about sharing this week with them.  Not only to see Paris, but for them to experience my life here as well, the family, the park, Marie-Césare...it should be interesting!

  1. We've been patient this whole week while you've been escorting your mom and Pat around Paris. Now it's time for photos and stories...Get back to work, Maggie, and tell us how you combined being Marie-Cesare's nanny and a good tour guide to the parents! Did you throw a princess party for your mom? Did Pat stay awake for the museums? I can't wait to hear! I've missed your stories this week. And your photos.
